
ASE VC Prof. Adedimeji Honoured as UNILORIN Marks 50th Anniversary

The University of Ilorin has honoured Prof. Mahfouz A. Adedimeji, Vice-Chancellor of the African School of Economics (ASE), with an ambassadorial award, alongside 49 other distinguished alumni recognized for their excellence across diverse fields.
Prof. Adedimeji, a seasoned academic and communications expert, shared his reflections on the honour in a statement following the event.
“Today, the authorities of the University of Ilorin under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, conferred on me and 49 other alumni of the University the ambassadorial award,” he wrote.
“In this category were accomplished professionals and leading lights in various fields like academics, law, judiciary, medicine, banking, broadcasting and several areas of human endeavour.”
The prestigious ceremony, held at the university, also featured the conferment of Distinguished Alumni Awards on ten eminent Nigerians, led by Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar of JAMB.
In addition, Dr. Tunji Olowolafe and Dr. A. Murtadha Adeniji were celebrated with awards of excellence for their philanthropic contributions to education and society.
The event was further highlighted by a compelling keynote lecture delivered by Prof. Yusuf Ali, SAN, titled “The Heart of Giving.”
The Vice Chancellor of UNILORIN, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, also addressed the gathering with a speech themed “One Good Turn Deserves Another,” underscoring the university’s commitment to recognising contributions that uplift its legacy.
Adedimeji, who described the event as colourful and inspiring, added, “The colourful day ended with prayers at my place by the staff and students of the University of Ilorin. I appreciate family, friends and associates for their goodwill. I am grateful to the University of Ilorin for the recognition.”
The celebration marks five decades of UNILORIN’s influence as a centre of academic excellence, producing globally competitive graduates and shaping leaders across disciplines.
