LASU student accuses landlord of sexual harassment, death threat

LASU student accuses landlord of sexual harassment, death threat

A A 300-level student of Lagos State University (LASU) has cried out for justice after alleging that her landlord not only made repeated sexual advances toward her but also physically assaulted and threatened to kill her when she refused.

Narrating her ordeal in a video that has now gone viral, the student explained how the harassment began when she first approached the landlord to pay her rent.

According to her, he attempted to initiate uncomfortable conversations and later began making late-night visits to her apartment, knocking on her door and inviting her to "chill."

“I didn’t want to be rude, so I just told him I had a class and left,” she recounted. “But he kept coming around at odd hours. Sometimes he’d knock on my door late at night. He asked me to come cook for him, and when I refused, things started getting worse.”

She further explained that the landlord once slapped her—something she says happened on three separate occasions.

During one of the incidents, she alleged that her lecturer and a friend had to intervene to restore peace, though the emotional toll affected her academic performance, including a school competition where she was unable to sing properly.

The situation escalated further last week when the landlord allegedly attempted to hit her with a flower pot after an argument.

The student said she struggled with him and eventually used the object in self-defense. Neighbors and church members reportedly rushed to the scene but were unable to gain access to the compound due to a locked gate.

“After that, he broke bottles and was shouting threats. He even said he would kill me. This was after I returned from the police station in Ibadan where I went to write my statement,” she added.

Nigerian social media activist VeryDarkMan visited the scene in Igando, Lagos, to show solidarity with the student. In his reaction, he exposed that the landlord also operates a pure water factory on the premises.

“I came all the way to Igando over the LASU student who was threatened by her landlord for rejecting his sexual advances. When I got here, I found out the man owns a pure water factory. From the look of things, it’s not only the girl he wants to destroy—everyone drinking his water is at risk,” he said.

He called on NAFDAC to immediately investigate the sanitary conditions and regulatory compliance of the water factory, demanding that the agency disclose its guidelines for licensing such operations.
