JUST IN: Tinubu Approves Ibom Deep Seaport After Eno’s Two Million Votes Pledge
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the Ibom Deep Seaport project in Akwa Ibom State after Governor Umo Eno appealed for its realisation during the President’s visit to the state on Friday.
Tinubu announced the approval while addressing supporters at a reception and All Progressives Congress (APC) rally held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The President arrived in Akwa Ibom on Friday, November 6, for a working visit during which he inaugurated projects executed by the Eno administration and participated in the party’s political gathering.
During the rally, Eno appealed to the Federal Government to approve and deliver the long-awaited Ibom Deep Seaport, describing it as a major economic project capable of transforming the state and the South-South region.
The governor also pledged that Akwa Ibom would deliver two million votes for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 if the President approved the project.
“Give us Ibom Deep Seaport, we will deliver two million votes,” Eno said.
Responding to the request, Tinubu acknowledged the governor’s appeal before declaring, “Okay, it’s approved.”
The proposed seaport is located at Ibaka in Mbo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. It is expected to support maritime transportation, international trade, industrial development and employment generation.
The project, initially conceived during the administration of former Governor Victor Attah, has remained a major development aspiration for Akwa Ibom despite previous government commitments and regulatory milestones.
According to the Akwa Ibom State Government’s project information, the development has previously secured Federal Government approval, alongside other regulatory clearances.
Tinubu’s announcement on Friday has renewed expectations surrounding the project’s implementation.
However, details of the latest approval, including its funding arrangements, construction commencement and implementation timeline, are yet to be established.
