The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disowned a social media poster claiming that it has reaffirmed Senator David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the publication as fake.

In a statement issued on Friday, November 6, the commission said the poster and accompanying message circulating online did not originate from it.

INEC also condemned the unauthorised use of its logo and the photograph of its National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, in the publication.

“For the avoidance of doubt, INEC has issued no such reaffirmation,” the commission stated.

It urged members of the public to disregard the publication entirely and rely only on information released through its official and verified communication channels.

The clarification comes amid the ongoing leadership crisis within the ADC, following a November 5 judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja which nullified the leadership led by Mark.

The court ruled in favour of Nafiu Bala Gombe, a former Deputy National Chairman of the party, who challenged the emergence of Mark and other members of the disputed leadership.

However, the ADC has rejected the judgment and indicated its intention to challenge the decision through available legal channels.

INEC’s latest clarification does not amount to a reaffirmation of any faction’s leadership but specifically addresses the authenticity of the circulating publication.
