Osun APC Drops ‘Presidential’ From Campaign Committee, Expands Membership
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has renamed its Presidential and Parliamentary Campaign Committee as the Parliamentary Campaign Committee following disagreements over the composition and leadership of its campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The revised arrangement was announced on Tuesday, November 3, by the state party chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, who retained the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, as Director-General of the committee.
The development followed protests by four members of the State Executive Committee, who rejected the original 168-member committee unveiled on Monday, November 2, over alleged exclusion of key party officials and concerns about compliance with established party procedures.
The aggrieved officials were the State Publicity Secretary, Wole Adunola; Welfare Officer, Adesola Ayangbile; Assistant Organising Secretary, Rasheed Adeniji; and an ex-officio member, Abiola Ololade.
In a joint statement, they faulted the composition of the original committee, arguing that several members of the State Working Committee who were expected to serve as statutory members had been excluded.
They also questioned the emergence of another presidential campaign structure despite an earlier arrangement reportedly naming Governor Ademola Adeleke as Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council in the state.
Adeleke had subsequently inaugurated the state’s Presidential Campaign Council on October 22, 2026, following the inauguration of the national council by President Bola Tinubu on October 14.
The four executives argued that the emergence of a separate presidential campaign committee without adequate clarification could create confusion and duplication of responsibilities within the party.
They, however, suggested that the disputed committee would be more appropriate if it focused on parliamentary elections rather than presidential campaigns.
Following the objections, the state APC leadership revised the committee’s designation to the Parliamentary Campaign Committee.
In the accompanying statement, Lawal said the committee would work to mobilise support for the party’s candidates contesting National and State Assembly elections in the 2027 general elections.
He also pledged the committee’s cooperation with members of the existing Presidential Campaign Council to secure votes for Tinubu and other APC candidates.
The revised arrangement retained Oyebamiji as Director-General, while Lawal continued as Deputy Director-General.
Meanwhile, the revised committee was expanded to 183 members from its initial 168, according to reports detailing the new composition.
The development represents an adjustment to the Osun APC’s campaign structure following disagreements among party officials over leadership, representation and the coordination of its presidential and parliamentary campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections.
