2027: Remi Tinubu Flags Off APC Women’s Mobilisation in Southeast, Targets 5,000 Beneficiaries
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has flagged off the All Progressives Congress (APC) women’s mobilisation campaign in the South-East, alongside an empowerment programme targeting more than 5,000 women across the region’s five states.
The event, held on Saturday at Michael Okpara Square in Enugu, combined political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections with the distribution of business equipment and other support materials to women from Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.
Items distributed included sewing machines, grinding machines, popcorn machines and bags of rice, with the initiative aimed at supporting beneficiaries’ businesses, livelihoods and household needs.
Speaking at the gathering, Mrs Tinubu said the empowerment programme was part of efforts to translate President Bola Tinubu’s promise of economic prosperity into practical support for Nigerians.
She maintained that the administration’s economic reforms were giving way to a period of prosperity and urged women not to be discouraged by the difficulties associated with the reforms.
The First Lady also called on women across the South-East to support her husband’s re-election bid and other APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
The mobilisation exercise attracted several political leaders, including the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima; governors of the South-East; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu; and other government officials and party stakeholders.
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who hosted the event, said the programme was designed to reach more than 5,000 women across the region.
He also disclosed that more than 2,000 women in Enugu had received assistance within the preceding 48 hours through cash support, business equipment and payment of hospital bills.
Mbah described the intervention as an opportunity to help women become economically productive and contribute to the development of their families and communities.
He urged the beneficiaries to make productive use of the materials received while calling on residents of the South-East to support President Tinubu and APC candidates in 2027.
Similarly, Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, appealed to residents of the region to support the President’s second-term ambition.
Uzodimma highlighted infrastructure development and other federal interventions in the region as reasons for continued political support for the administration.
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu also called on the people of the South-East to support President Tinubu, citing the establishment of the South-East Development Commission as one of the administration’s interventions in the region.
The rally forms part of the APC’s wider efforts to mobilise women across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The programme also highlighted the role of women’s economic empowerment in the party’s political mobilisation efforts as preparations for the next presidential election gather momentum.
