Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the reported attacks on the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Sokoto State, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, demanding immediate and transparent investigations into the incidents.

Atiku made the call in a statement published on his official Facebook page on Saturday, October 31, describing the reported incidents as troubling and unacceptable.

The former vice president alleged that the attacks reflected growing political intimidation against opposition leaders and their supporters under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

He also accused individuals allegedly loyal to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of targeting political opponents, expressing concern over what he described as attempts to suppress opposition activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku further alleged that a local security outfit in Sokoto State had been harassing ADC supporters and manhandling residents for wearing clothing bearing the party’s insignia.

He also raised concerns over the reported disappearance of some social media influencers, describing the developments as warning signs of a possible clampdown on political opposition and freedom of expression.

The former vice president’s reaction comes amid reports of separate incidents involving Sowore in Ekiti State and Dan’iya in Sokoto State.

Demanding accountability, Atiku called on the Federal Government to ensure thorough investigations into both incidents and guarantee the safety of opposition politicians and their supporters.

He also urged the Tinubu administration to protect democratic participation and ensure that the forthcoming general elections are free, fair and competitive.

Atiku maintained that Nigerians must be allowed to participate freely in political activities and determine the country’s leadership through a credible electoral process.

The allegations of political involvement in the reported attacks have yet to be independently established.
