‘Let Nigeria Live in Peace’: Tinubu’s Message After Performing Umrah in Makkah
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has performed Umrah in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, praying for sustainable peace, national unity and an end to insecurity in Nigeria.
Tinubu undertook the Islamic spiritual exercise early Friday morning, October 30, at the Grand Mosque, Masjid al-Haram, where he circumambulated the Holy Ka’abah in worship and thanksgiving.
Speaking with journalists shortly after completing the religious exercise, the President described the pilgrimage as significant to his commitment to Nigeria, its people and his responsibilities as the country’s leader.
“I believe this Umrah is very significant for the love of our people, commitment to the job and our country, Nigeria; commitment to the will of Allah that His words must prevail,” he said.
The President expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity to perform the pilgrimage, adding that prayers had been offered for Nigerians to live in peace, harmony and happiness.
“I am grateful to Allah for being able to perform this Umrah. We have just prayed for our nation, for everyone to live in peace and harmony, happiness and faith in God Almighty,” Tinubu said.
According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President also sought divine guidance for Nigeria’s leaders, stronger bonds of brotherhood among citizens and lasting relief from insecurity and other challenges confronting the country.
Tinubu further expressed hope that Nigeria would make progress towards economic prosperity, social development and a more secure future for its citizens.
In a separate interaction with State House correspondents in Makkah, the President emphasised the need for Nigerians to turn the country’s diversity into an advantage for national development.
“Our strength is our diversity, and we continue to build on that for the prospect and security of the country,” he said.
The President was accompanied during the interaction by several government officials and political leaders, including Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.
Tinubu’s visit to Saudi Arabia followed his departure from Abuja on Thursday, October 29, for the religious exercise.
The Saudi Press Agency also confirmed his participation in the Umrah rituals on Friday.
The President is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing his spiritual exercise.
