Bayern Munich Coach Kompany Hospitalised After Collapsing During Training
Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has been hospitalised after collapsing while watching a training session involving the German club’s reserve team on Friday, October 23.
The club confirmed the incident in a statement published on its official website, saying the Belgian manager required medical attention and would remain under medical care while undergoing thorough examinations.
Kompany, 40, was observing the reserve team’s training session when the incident occurred. Bayern did not disclose the specific cause of his collapse or provide a timeline for his return.
The club’s sporting director, Max Eberl, said Kompany’s health remained the priority and assured him of the club’s support during his recovery.
“Vincent Kompany’s health is our top priority,” Eberl said, adding that the manager was receiving the necessary medical care and would be given all the time he needed.
Bayern also confirmed that Kompany’s coaching staff would take charge of training and match-related activities until further notice.
The development comes after Kompany had recently been dealing with a viral infection, according to reports. He missed some training sessions and a pre-match news conference before Bayern’s UEFA Champions League meeting with Arsenal earlier in the week.
He nevertheless returned to the touchline for Wednesday’s match, which ended in a 2-2 draw at Bayern’s Allianz Arena.
Bayern are scheduled to face Freiburg away in the Bundesliga on Sunday. It was not immediately clear whether Kompany would be available for the fixture.
The club has not released further details about his medical condition or announced when he is expected to resume his duties.
