Broda Shaggi recounts survival, recovery after stray bullet injury
Nigerian comedian and actor Samuel Animashaun Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has recounted how a gunshot injury sustained in March left him uncertain about his future in entertainment.
Shaggi shared his experience in a video titled Second Chance (The Story), published on his YouTube channel on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
According to the entertainer, the incident occurred on March 9 after he and his team completed a brand activation assignment and were leaving the area around the Sango-Ota bridge in Ogun State.
He said they encountered heavy traffic when he suddenly heard a loud bang. Moments later, he noticed blood around his hip and realised he had been shot.
“I could see people talking, but I couldn’t hear what they were saying,” Shaggi recounted, describing the confusion he experienced immediately after the incident.
He said he subsequently lost consciousness and could not remember the journey to the hospital, recalling only that he prayed for survival while receiving medical attention.
The comedian was initially taken to a hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos State before being transferred to another facility in Ikeja for further treatment.
Shaggi said the injury required surgery and left him facing a difficult recovery. He also disclosed that he later travelled to Dubai for further treatment after spending months dealing with the consequences of the injury.
Fear of losing his career
Beyond the physical pain, the incident left the entertainer worried about whether he would be able to return to the work that had defined his career.
Shaggi explained that his performances often involved dancing and other physical activities, making his ability to walk a major concern during his recovery.
He said watching colleagues continue to produce skits while he remained away from work sometimes left him emotional.
The comedian also worried that audiences might forget him if his absence from the entertainment industry continued.
According to him, his recovery gradually improved following further treatment and rehabilitation. He said he was able to stand with support and subsequently walk with crutches.
Although he reported significant progress, Shaggi disclosed that he still needed crutches for support.
Police investigation
The incident had attracted attention in March after reports emerged that the entertainer had sustained a gunshot injury around Sango-Ota.
In a statement issued on March 13, the Ogun State Police Command said it had commenced an investigation into the reports but could not confirm that the shooting occurred within its jurisdiction.
The command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, reiterated the position in a statement reported on March 14, saying the incident had not been reported or documented at any police formation in the state.
Shaggi’s latest account provides further details about his experience, including the medical treatment and emotional difficulties he said followed the injury.
However, the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the outcome of the police investigation have not been independently established in the sources reviewed.
Describing his survival as a second chance, the comedian expressed gratitude for being alive and promised to return to entertaining his audience with new projects.
