Otedola Recalls Sharing Bunk Bed With Hamzat 49 Years Ago
Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has revealed that he shared a bunk bed with Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat during their boarding-school days 49 years ago.
Otedola made the revelation in a post on his X account on Monday, October 19, 2026, following a dinner he hosted in honour of Hamzat, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.
Describing Hamzat as a longtime friend, Otedola praised his character, citing honesty, sincerity, fairness and strong moral principles.
“Yesterday, I hosted dinner in honour of @DrObafemiHamzat, the incoming Governor of Lagos State. A man of the highest integrity, with whom I shared a bunk bed at boarding school 49 years ago,” Otedola wrote.
He added that his experience of Hamzat over the years had been shaped by the deputy governor’s personal values.
“My experience of his character over the years has been defined by his honesty, sincerity, fairness and strong moral principles,” he said.
The dinner was attended by prominent Nigerian businessmen, including Aliko Dangote, chairman of the Dangote Group, and Abdul Samad Rabiu, chairman of BUA Group, according to reports by Vanguard and P.M. News.
Otedola’s comments highlight a personal relationship that predates Hamzat’s involvement in Lagos State politics and his current bid to become governor.
Hamzat has served as Lagos State deputy governor since 2019 under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. He emerged as the APC’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election after the party’s primary in May 2026, according to P.M. News.
Otedola’s description of Hamzat as the “incoming Governor of Lagos State” reflects his confidence in his longtime friend’s political prospects. Hamzat, however, is still a candidate and would need to win the 2027 election to assume the office.
The dinner and Otedola’s public remarks come as political activities gradually build towards the next governorship election in Lagos State.
