BREAKING: NDC Postpones Obi-Kwankwaso Campaign Council Inauguration to October 26
Tkhe Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has postponed the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council from October 20 to October 26, 2026, citing the overseas engagement of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, announced the change in a statement on Monday, October 19, according to reports by Vanguard and TheCable.
The event was initially scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, but will now take place on Monday, October 26.
In the statement quoted by Vanguard, the party said the postponement was necessitated by Obi’s “very tight schedule” and an important engagement overseas.
The party apologised for any inconvenience caused by the change and urged its members and supporters to remain focused on its preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The postponement comes after the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, announced on October 10 that the campaign council would be inaugurated on October 20.
Cleopas had explained that the party was consulting Obi and its vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, over appointments to the campaign structure.
He said the consultations were intended to ensure that the council was properly constituted before the party commenced its campaign activities.
According to the earlier announcement reported by Vanguard, the planned October 20 event was also expected to feature the presentation of certificates of return to the party’s candidates and a dinner to strengthen cooperation among them.
The NDC has not been reported to have announced any other changes to these planned activities following the new date.
The party is preparing for the 2027 elections with Obi as its presidential candidate and Kwankwaso as his running mate.
The campaign council is expected to coordinate the party’s presidential election activities, although the full details of its membership and leadership were not contained in the postponement announcement.
The inauguration is now scheduled for October 26, subject to any further announcement by the party.
