Ogun 2027: SIA Movement Dumps APC for PDP, Endorses Iyabo Obasanjo, Three Others
The Senator Ibikunle Amosun (SIA) Movement in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State has reportedly left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), endorsing four candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The candidates endorsed by the group are Senator Iyabo Obasanjo for Ogun Central Senatorial District, Chief Toyin Amuzu for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Olufunbi Majekodunmi for Abeokuta South State Constituency I, and Adeoye Adewale Adeniran for State Constituency II.
The movement’s leader in Abeokuta, Moshood Okanlawon Akinleye, popularly known as Americo, announced the decision on Wednesday, October 14, according to reports by The Peoples Gazette and Platform Times.
Akinleye reportedly described the group’s experience in the APC as disappointing, accusing the ruling party in Ogun State of lacking direction and failing to provide leadership that meets the expectations of ordinary citizens.
He said the decision followed a reassessment of the movement’s experience in the party and a determination to return to the PDP, which he described as its political home.
Akinleye also criticised the APC’s approach to governance, arguing that its policies had failed to address the concerns of the people.
The group said it would mobilise its members and supporters across Abeokuta South to work towards the victory of its endorsed candidates in the 2027 elections.
According to the reports, Akinleye maintained that members of the movement would not support candidates outside the PDP in the forthcoming polls.
The PDP candidate for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Toyin Amuzu, reportedly welcomed the movement’s decision, describing its return to the party as a boost to its political strength ahead of the elections.
Amuzu commended Akinleye and other members of the group for their decision and expressed optimism that their support would improve the party’s chances in the forthcoming polls.
He also urged the group to work with other PDP members towards securing victory for the party’s candidates in Ogun State.
The reported realignment comes as political parties and their supporters position themselves for the 2027 general elections.
Iyabo Obasanjo is seeking the Ogun Central senatorial seat on the PDP platform, while Amuzu is seeking election to represent Abeokuta South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Majekodunmi and Adeniran are seeking seats in the Ogun State House of Assembly for Abeokuta South State Constituencies I and II, respectively.
The announcement, however, does not by itself establish the extent of the movement’s membership or the number of voters it could influence.
It also remains unclear whether the decision was endorsed by Senator Ibikunle Amosun personally or whether it represents the position of the movement’s leadership in Abeokuta South.
The APC’s response to the reported defection was not included in the material reviewed for this report.
