Ogun Police Recover Toyota Camry Stolen from Indian National Within Eight Hours, Suspect Arrested

Operatives of the Ifo Division of the Ogun State Police Command have recovered a stolen 2016 Toyota Camry and arrested one suspect in connection with the theft of the vehicle belonging to an Indian national based at the Ilupeju Industrial Estate, Lagos.
The recovery was made at a hotel in Ifo less than eight hours after the police received a report of the incident.
The vehicle was allegedly stolen on September 9, 2026, by the owner’s driver, identified as Waidi Olaide Kolawale, who was reportedly employed just two days before the incident.
According to the police, Kolawale told his employer that he was taking the vehicle to a nearby vulcaniser to repair a faulty tyre but allegedly absconded with the car.
Following the report, the vehicle was electronically tracked to the Ifo axis. The information was subsequently relayed to the Divisional Police Officer, Ifo Division, CSP Kamorudeen Olabisi, who analysed the available intelligence and deployed surveillance and anti-robbery operatives.
The operatives tracked the vehicle through several locations before eventually locating it at a hotel in Ifo at about 8:30 p.m.
However, on sighting the police, Kolawale allegedly fled the scene with the ignition key, while his alleged accomplice, identified as Monday Adetunji, was arrested.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had allegedly approached a mechanic to remove the vehicle’s catalyst, but the mechanic reportedly declined the request.
The recovered vehicle has since been handed over to the owner, while police operatives are intensifying efforts to arrest the fleeing suspect and unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, advised vehicle owners to use reliable tracking devices and additional anti-theft measures such as steering and tyre locks.
Babaseyi also urged members of the public to exercise caution when entrusting their vehicles, property and access to their homes or businesses to others, stressing that trust should be accompanied by due diligence.
