Police Rescue Two Colombian Women from Alleged Trafficking Syndicate in Lagos
The Nigeria Police Force has rescued two Colombian women who were allegedly lured to Nigeria and held captive by a human trafficking syndicate in Lagos.
The victims, identified as Maria Camila Rodas Ortiz and Yuliet Fernanda Rios Mesa, were rescued by operatives of the NCB-INTERPOL Lagos Annex following intelligence received from INTERPOL-NCB Bogotá on August 26, 2026.
According to the police, operatives traced the victims to a suspected trafficking hideout in Lagos, where they were found and rescued. The suspected traffickers, reportedly Chinese nationals, however, fled the location before the arrival of the operatives.
The police said the rescued women are currently receiving necessary support while arrangements are being made for their safe return to Colombia.
It added that the Colombian Embassy in Accra is collaborating with the Nigerian authorities to provide accommodation and secure emergency travel documents for the victims.
The Nigeria Police Force said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, as investigations continue into the alleged human trafficking operation.
