Oluwo Urges Tinubu to Grant Nnamdi Kanu Presidential Pardon

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider granting presidential pardon to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Oba Akanbi said releasing Kanu through presidential intervention could serve as a significant step towards national reconciliation, peace and greater unity in the country.

The traditional ruler made the appeal against the backdrop of continued debates surrounding Kanu’s detention and the broader issue of separatist agitations in different parts of the country.

He urged the Federal Government to explore approaches that would promote dialogue, reconciliation and inclusiveness, stressing the importance of strengthening national cohesion.

According to him, a presidential pardon for Kanu could help reduce tensions associated with the separatist agitation and create room for renewed efforts at fostering peace and understanding among Nigerians.

The call by the Oluwo comes as Kanu’s case continues to attract national attention, with stakeholders expressing divergent views on the appropriate way to address the issues surrounding his prosecution and the activities of IPOB.
