Osun Muslim Community Congratulates Adeleke, Calls for Unity After Re-election
The Osun State Muslim Community has congratulated Governor Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke on his re-election victory in the state governorship election, urging political leaders and residents to embrace unity, peace and collective development in the aftermath of the polls.
The President of the Osun State Muslim Community, Alhaji Mustafa Adeleke Olawuyi, in a statement issued on Sunday, described the governor’s victory as an affirmation of the confidence reposed in him by the people of the state.
Olawuyi commended all stakeholders who participated in the election, including political parties, candidates, electoral officials, security personnel and voters, for their commitment to democratic principles and peaceful conduct.
According to him, the election victory should not be viewed as the triumph of an individual or political party alone, but as a reflection of the collective democratic will of the people of Osun State.
He said the Muslim community recognised the mandate given to Adeleke and pledged its support for initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and prosperity of residents irrespective of their religious, ethnic or political affiliations.
The Muslim leader, however, called on opposition political parties, candidates and their supporters to embrace reconciliation and place the broader interests of Osun State above post-election grievances.
“The elections have been held, the results are in, and now we must all turn our faces toward the future with renewed commitment to peace and development,” he said.
Olawuyi stressed that democratic competition should not permanently divide the people, urging both the winners and losers to play constructive roles in the continued development of the state.
He urged Governor Adeleke, upon commencement of his second tenure, to govern with magnanimity and extend genuine olive branches to political opponents who contested the election in good faith.
He also called on the governor to prioritise critical infrastructure, quality education, affordable healthcare and economic opportunities while ensuring fairness and equity across all communities and constituencies.
The Osun Muslim Community further urged the governor to strengthen engagement with faith-based organisations, uphold the rule of law, protect fundamental rights and ensure that his administration remains committed to inclusive governance and transparent stewardship.
Olawuyi also appealed to Christians, traditionalists and other residents of the state to remain active participants in the democratic process by holding government accountable while supporting genuine development initiatives.
He noted that political participation should continue beyond election day through constructive engagement, responsible citizenship and sustained advocacy for good governance.
The Muslim community, he said, would continue to serve as a bridge between government and the people while promoting interfaith dialogue, social harmony, justice, transparency and peaceful coexistence.
“We will deploy our grassroots networks and moral authority to promote peace and discourage any voices of violence or incitement,” Olawuyi said, adding that the community was ready to support developmental initiatives that genuinely improve the lives of citizens without discrimination.
He also expressed gratitude that Osun State was spared the level of electoral violence witnessed in some other parts of the country, describing the peaceful conduct of the election as a blessing that must be protected.
Quoting the Qur’an, Chapter 4, Verse 135, Olawuyi urged residents to remain committed to justice and fairness in the post-election period.
He said the conclusion of the election should mark the beginning of a new phase of democratic responsibility, stressing that the real work of governing justly, serving the people and building prosperity had only begun.
“The ink on the ballot papers has dried and the results are known. But the true work of democracy, governing justly, serving faithfully, and building prosperity together, now begins in earnest,” he said.
The Osun State Muslim Community subsequently pledged to partner with Governor Adeleke and other stakeholders in advancing peace, development and prosperity across the state.
Olawuyi prayed for divine wisdom for the governor to lead with justice, protect all citizens irrespective of their political choices and steer Osun State towards greater development and peaceful coexistence.
