Sanwo-Olu Presents ₦3.1bn Compensation to 331 Property Owners Affected by Infrastructure Projects

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Monday presented ₦3.1 billion in compensation to 331 property owners whose land and buildings were acquired for major infrastructure projects across Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Igbogbo and Ogba.

Speaking during the presentation of compensation cheques, Sanwo-Olu said the payment was part of the state government’s commitment to fairness and accountability in the execution of public infrastructure projects.

“Today, I presented ₦3.1 billion in compensation to 331 property owners whose land and buildings were acquired for key infrastructure projects across Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Igbogbo and Ogba,” the governor said.

He stressed that while Lagos continues to expand its road network and other public infrastructure, the government must also ensure that people whose properties are affected are treated justly.

“As we build the roads and public infrastructure Lagos needs, we must also do right by the people whose lives are directly affected,” he stated.

Sanwo-Olu explained that all claims were subjected to due process and verification to ensure that only rightful owners received compensation.
“Every claim was carefully verified through due process to ensure the rightful owners received what they were entitled to,” he said.

The governor acknowledged the personal and economic impact of property acquisition on affected residents and businesses, noting that the government does not take their sacrifices for granted.

“Behind every property is a family, a home or a business. While these projects will benefit millions of Lagosians, I do not take the sacrifice of those who made them possible for granted,” he added.

He reiterated his administration’s pledge to govern with transparency and equity, saying the compensation exercise was another opportunity to fulfil that promise.

“We made a promise to govern with fairness and accountability. Today was another opportunity to keep that promise,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The affected areas are part of ongoing road and infrastructure expansion projects aimed at improving transportation, connectivity and economic activities across Lagos State.
