Umahi’s Media Office Faults Sowore Over Viral Video at Police Headquarters

T The Media Office of the Honourable Minister of Works, David Umahi, has reacted to a viral video circulated by activist Omoyele Sowore, describing his attempt to confront the minister at the police headquarters as a “public spectacle.”

In a press statement dated February 25, 2026, the minister’s media aide said the video relates to allegations earlier made by Mrs. Tracy Ohiri, which have been in the public domain since last year. The claims reportedly concern alleged assault and unpaid campaign materials.

According to the statement, the allegations have “been inconsistent, contradictory, and lacking coherence,” adding that members of the public who followed the matter over time had observed the inconsistencies.

The media office further denied claims that the minister deployed the police to pursue personal interests, stating that the Nigeria Police Force acted within its constitutional mandate after receiving a petition from the minister’s lawyer.

“The Police invited all relevant parties, including the Honourable Minister, in line with standard investigative procedure,” the statement said.

It accused Sowore of attempting to dramatize a lawful investigative process, describing his actions as “performative activism designed to attract attention rather than seek truth.”

“The Honourable Minister, consistent with his character and respect for due process, declined to be drawn into theatrics and calmly disengaged,” the statement added.

The media office maintained that the matter remains under police investigation and urged the public to allow due process to take its course, stressing that the minister remains committed to transparency, the rule of law, and the delivery of critical infrastructure projects nationwide.
