Police rescue 35 Kidnapped victims, arrest robbery syndicates, recover weapons

T The Nigeria Police Force has successfully executed a series of operations leading to the rescue of 35 kidnapped victims, the arrest of multiple suspects involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, and the recovery of firearms and ammunition across several states. These achievements underscore the police’s commitment to ensuring safety, particularly during the festive season.

On December 7, 2024, at approximately 7 PM, police operatives from the Katsina State Command thwarted a kidnapping attempt along the Katsina-Magamar Jibia Road. The bandits, who fired upon a vehicle with 10 passengers, were engaged in a fierce gun battle and were forced to flee with gunshot injuries. All 10 victims were rescued unharmed. Later that evening, at 8:30 PM, another group of bandits ambushed a vehicle on the Funtua-Gusau Road, but quick police intervention led to the rescue of another 10 abducted passengers.

On December 4, 2024, in Akwa Ibom State, a young woman was rescued from being trafficked for forced prostitution. The suspect, Abraham Patrick Francis, was arrested, and the victim reunited with her family. Additionally, a police raid on December 5, 2024, in Amayam and Ikot Ukpong Villages resulted in the rescue of two kidnapped victims and the recovery of firearms, including a locally-made double-barrel gun and pistol. Two kidnappers were neutralized in the encounter.

On the same day, a 10-year-old boy, Emmanuel John, was rescued in Rivers State following the arrest and confession of Nwile Bete. The child was safely returned to his family, and the suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.

In Taraba State on December 6, 2024, police operatives intercepted kidnappers in Dutsen Mubayu, rescuing three victims and seizing three AK-47 rifles, magazines, and 75 rounds of ammunition. Later that day, a notorious kidnapping kingpin, Idris Alhaji Jaoji, and his informant, Jibo Alhaji Mai, were apprehended.

In Benue State, police attached to Zone 4 Command arrested members of a robbery syndicate operating along the Makurdi-Lafia Highway. The operation led to the arrest of Terhemba Dabo and his accomplices and the recovery of a G-3 rifle, military camouflage, police uniforms, and ammunition.

Amid these successes, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, praised the operatives for their bravery and urged them to intensify efforts during the festive season. The IGP assured Nigerians:
"We are committed to ensuring efficient safety and protection of lives and properties during this period."
