Osun State: Awotunde elected Ifelodun LG chairman, pledges unity, progress

F Following his victory in the Osun State local government elections, Hon. (Otunba) Sarafadeen Abiodun Awotunde has pledged to usher in a new era of development, unity, and transparency in Ifelodun Local Government.



Speaking during his acceptance speech on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Ikirun, Awotunde expressed deep gratitude to the people of Ifelodun for entrusting him with leadership once again.



"With profound gratitude to Almighty God and a humble heart, I stand before you today to accept the responsibility you have bestowed upon me as the newly elected Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government," he declared.



Acknowledging the collective effort that led to his victory, he dedicated his success to the people of Ifelodun, emphasizing that the win belongs to every resident who envisions a better, stronger, and more prosperous local government. He also commended the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) for conducting a transparent and peaceful election, despite challenges.



While calling for unity beyond political affiliations, Awotunde urged fellow contestants to work with him for the greater good.



"Our collective aim is the progress of Ifelodun. I call on everyone to unite with me beyond party lines for the good of our people," he said.



He extended heartfelt appreciation to his party (PDP) members, campaign team, family, and volunteers who contributed tirelessly to his victory, promising that their trust in him would not be taken for granted.



Reflecting on his campaign engagements across communities, Awotunde reassured the people that his promises were not mere political rhetoric.



He reiterated his commitment to delivering improved infrastructure, better healthcare services, enhanced educational opportunities, support for farmers and traders, as well as empowerment programmes for youths and women.



"Today, I pledge before you all that those promises will not be mere words or political talks just to win elections. I assure you all that my administration will be one of action, fulfillment of promises, service to the people, transparency, and accountability," he vowed.



Awotunde also reaffirmed his commitment to complementing the efforts of Governor Ademola Adeleke, whom he praised for his purposeful and people-oriented leadership. He assured that his administration would swiftly settle down and focus on harnessing opportunities to drive economic growth, peace, and stability in Ifelodun.



Calling on all residents to join hands with him, he emphasized that progress is a collective effort. "Let's foster unity, embrace peace, and work together for the progress of our beloved local government. There is no challenge too great when we stand united," he urged.



Concluding his speech, Awotunde reminisced on his previous tenure as Executive Chairman and assured the people of his unwavering dedication to serving with integrity and fairness. "I am here to serve again, to listen, and to lead with integrity and fairness. May Almighty God guide us in this noble endeavour," he said.
