Lagos Govt Rescues Child Allegedly Branded ‘Witch’ by Mother

T The Lagos State Government has rescued a toddler allegedly abandoned and subjected to severe neglect by her mother over claims of witchcraft, following public outcry sparked by a viral video.

The disturbing footage, widely shared on social media, showed the child in a frail and malnourished state, clad only in a diaper and drinking from a visibly unclean container. The images triggered widespread condemnation and urgent calls for intervention.

The case was brought to public attention by an X user, @TheGrandmaBoy, who on April 11 posted the video and alleged that the child had been abandoned due to accusations of being a witch.

Confirming the development, Ridwan Ajetunmobi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Print Media, said the government had swiftly intervened to rescue the child.

While details of the child’s medical condition and custody arrangements remain undisclosed, the incident has reignited concerns over child abuse fueled by superstition and harmful beliefs.
