The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has inaugurated a high-level committee tasked with reviewing and harmonising the Scheme of Service and Harmonised Condition of Service for officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The inauguration ceremony, held on August 11, 2025, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, marks what the IGP described as “a major step towards modernising the administrative and operational framework of the Nigeria Police Force.”
The committee’s mandate includes aligning the Police Scheme of Service with national public service rules and the Police Act, consulting with key stakeholders — including the Police Service Commission, Ministry of Police Affairs, and the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation — and submitting an updated draft within two weeks.
Chaired by AIG Nemi Iwo, the 10-member team comprises senior officers from various specialisations, as well as a representative of the Police Service Commission.
Speaking at the inauguration, IGP Egbetokun said the initiative underscores the Force’s dedication to professional growth, improved welfare, and enhanced capacity to address evolving security challenges.
“This is part of my unrelenting commitment to ensuring that the Nigeria Police Force operates with the most current and effective administrative frameworks,” he stated, adding that the reform process complements ongoing welfare improvements for both serving and retired officers, such as better living conditions and improved retirement benefits.
The move is seen as another significant reform effort by the current police leadership to strengthen professionalism, boost morale, and enhance service delivery across the Force.
