The Anambra State Police Command has reacted to a disturbing video making the rounds on social media, in which a young woman recounted how her brother was gruesomely murdered by suspected kidnappers after refusing their inhumane demand.
In the viral clip, the bereaved sister explained that she, her brother, and another sibling were working on their farm when armed men abducted them and dragged them into the bush. According to her narration, the assailants ordered her to undress and instructed her brother to defile her. Displaying remarkable courage, her brother refused the order, telling the kidnappers to take his life instead.
She tearfully revealed that at that moment, the attackers used machetes to hack her brother to death before her eyes. After the brutal act, the kidnappers reportedly ordered her and her other sister to run away or face the same fate.
Reacting to the incident in a statement, the state police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, strongly condemned the killing, describing it as “a heartless and barbaric act.”
“The CP, while condoling with the grieving family as well as the good people of Amansea, ordered the Operatives of the State Intelligence Department to identify the survivor to assist the Police in its Investigation. The Command urges members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative by providing credible information that will aid the swift arrest of the suspects,” Ikenga stated.
He added that the Commissioner reiterated the Command’s commitment to remain resolute in the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes in the state, assuring that the protection of citizens’ lives and property remains the foremost priority of the police.
