IGP Decorates Top Officers, Engages Pension Officials on Welfare Reforms

T The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun on Tuesday, 5th August 2025, decorated two outstanding officers—ACP Aliyu Shaba and CSP Sentome Obi—with their new ranks. The ceremony, held at the IGP Smart Conference Room, Force Headquarters, Abuja, recognized them as the Police Officers of the Year for 2023 and 2024 respectively.

The IGP highlighted that the promotion and decoration of the officers reflect the Force’s dedication to acknowledging personnel who exemplify dedication, professionalism, and exceptional service to the nation. He reiterated the stance of the Force Management on merit-based recognition, stating:

“Any officer who wins Police Officer of the Year Award, wins the IGP Commendation Award or has won category award in the last two consecutive years shall be recommended to the Police Service Commission for accelerated promotion.”

He further called on all officers to uphold excellence, saying that “The doors of honour and recognition are wide open, but would only come as a result of hard work, professionalism, excellence, and service discipline.”

In a related development, the IGP also hosted a high-level delegation from the National Pension Commission (PenCom), led by the Director-General, Ms Omolola B. Oluworaran, and the Managing Director of NPF Pensions Limited, Mr Kolade Morakinyo. The engagement featured an interactive session with senior police officers from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and above.

The session addressed key concerns about the welfare of both serving and retired officers, with the IGP expressing optimism about forthcoming improvements. He emphasized that:

“In no distant time, all the efforts to ameliorate the pitiable conditions of retired officers would yield positive result.”

Reaffirming his administration’s vision, the IGP assured that the leadership of the Force remains committed to fostering a professionally competent, service-driven, rule of law-compliant, and people-friendly police force.
