The Federal Government has announced the cancellation of the Independence Anniversary parade earlier scheduled to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
In a statement signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the government stressed that the cancellation does not diminish the importance of the milestone celebration.
“The government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th year of independence with dignity and enthusiasm,” the statement read. It further clarified that all other programmes lined up for the anniversary will go on as planned.
While expressing regret over any inconvenience the development may cause, the Federal Government thanked Nigerians, members of the diplomatic community, and invited guests for their understanding and support.
It also called on citizens to rally behind the reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu aimed at building a greater and more prosperous nation.
