Chelle Unveils Super Eagles’ 28-Man Squad for 2025 AFCON in Morocco

S Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has released Nigeria’s 28-man squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to take place in Morocco, naming a combination of experienced internationals and emerging talents.

The squad selection reflects a balance between established players expected to provide leadership and a number of in-form newcomers aiming to make an impact on the continental stage. However, the list has also generated reactions among fans following the omission of several high-profile players who were widely tipped for inclusion.

In goal, Chelle has selected Stanley Nwabali of Chippa United in South Africa, Amas Obasogie of Singida Blackstars in Tanzania, and Francis Uzoho of Omonia FC in Cyprus.

The defensive department includes Calvin Bassey (Fulham FC, England), Oluwasemilogo Ajayi (Hull City, England), Bright Osayi-Samuel (Birmingham City, England), Bruno Onyemaechi (Olympiakos, Greece), Chidozie Awaziem (Nantes FC, France), Zaidu Sanusi (FC Porto, Portugal), Igoh Ogbu (Slavia Prague, Czech Republic), and Ryan Alebiosu (Blackburn Rovers, England).

Midfield options named by the coach are Alex Iwobi (Fulham FC, England), Frank Onyeka (Brentford FC, England), Wilfred Ndidi (Besiktas FC, Turkey), Raphael Onyedika (Club Brugge, Belgium), Fisayo Dele-Bashiru (SS Lazio, Italy), Ebenezer Akinsanmiro (Pisa SC, Italy), Usman Muhammed (Ironi Tiberias, Israel), and Tochukwu Nnadi (SV Zulte Waregem, Belgium).

In attack, Chelle has called up Ademola Lookman (Atalanta BC, Italy), Samuel Chukwueze (Fulham FC, England), Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray FC, Turkey), Moses Simon (Paris FC, France), Chidera Ejuke (Sevilla FC, Spain), Akor Adams (Sevilla FC, Spain), Paul Onuachu (Trabzonspor AS, Turkey), Salim Fago Lawal (NK Istra 1961, Croatia), and Cyriel Dessers (Panathinaikos FC, Greece).

The Super Eagles are expected to commence preparations ahead of the tournament in the coming weeks, as Chelle looks to fine-tune his squad and build cohesion ahead of Nigeria’s campaign at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
