Céline Dion sends heartfelt ode to Olympians, gives captivating performance

C Céline Dion captivated the world with a stunning performance of the iconic French love song “L’Hymne à l’amour” from the Eiffel Tower during the Paris 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony.

Following her breathtaking performance, Dion took to Instagram to share a heartwarming message dedicated to both the city of Paris and the athletes competing in the 2024 Olympics.

"I’m honored to have performed tonight, for the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, and so full of joy to be back in one of my very favorite cities!" Dion posted, accompanied by a photo of her making a heart with her hands.

This performance marked a significant moment for Dion, who has been battling stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that has kept her off stage since 2020. Despite the personal milestone, Dion’s message was focused on the Olympic athletes and their incredible journeys.

"Most of all, I’m so happy to be celebrating these amazing athletes, with all their stories of sacrifice and determination, pain and perseverance," Dion wrote. "All of you have been so focused on your dream, and whether or not you take home a medal, I hope that being here means that it has come true for you! You should all be so proud, we know how hard you have worked to be the best of the best. Stay focused, keep going, my heart is with you!"

The post was signed simply, "Celine, xx," embodying her sincere and personal connection to the message.

Dion’s battle with stiff-person syndrome, which causes stiff muscles and debilitating spasms, has been a challenging journey. Her return to the stage was not just a triumph of spirit but a testament to her resilience. In her recent documentary, "I Am: Céline Dion," she shared how the prospect of performing again served as a powerful motivator during her recovery.

"I see my life, and I love every piece of it," Dion said, using a metaphor to describe her journey. "When a girl loves her shoes, she always makes them fit — from six to ten — I love them. Give it to me. Here we go."
