Anthony Joshua’s Driver Appears in Court Over Reckless Driving Charges

A Adeniyi Kayode, the driver involved in the fatal road accident that claimed the lives of two members of professional boxer Anthony Joshua’s team, appeared before the Sagamu Magistrate Court in Ogun State on Monday, January 20, 2026.

Kayode, 46, was arraigned on four counts bordering on dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence.

The magistrate granted him bail in the sum of ?5 million with two sureties in like sum, while the case was adjourned to January 20, 2026, for the commencement of trial.

The accident occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and was reportedly caused by excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.

Anthony Joshua, a former heavyweight boxing champion, survived the crash. However, the incident resulted in the deaths of his personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami.

As of the time of filing this report, journalists and legal practitioners were gathered at the Sagamu Magistrate Court premises awaiting the start of proceedings.
