Makinde Tells Nigerians to Collect Campaign Money but Vote According to Their Conscience
The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has urged Nigerians to collect money offered by politicians during election campaigns but vote according to their conscience.
Makinde gave the advice on Saturday, November 7, 2026, during the flag-off of his party’s 2027 presidential campaign in Bauchi State.
Addressing supporters at the rally, the Oyo State governor said voters should not feel obliged to support politicians simply because they received money from them.
“Don’t bother at all. When they bring money, it is your money, collect it, but vote your heart and I know your heart is with us and APM,” he said.
Makinde’s remarks came as he canvassed support for the party’s proposed ‘Reset Nigeria’ agenda, which he said would address challenges facing the country if elected president.
He identified economic hardship, insecurity and lack of inclusiveness in governance as some of the issues requiring urgent attention.
The APM candidate argued that Nigerians dissatisfied with the country’s current situation should support his proposed plan to reform the economy, security architecture and socio-political environment.
He also questioned the government’s ability to address the country’s challenges with sincerity, urging supporters to become part of what he described as the movement to reset Nigeria.
The party’s vice-presidential candidate, Lawal Daura, also addressed the gathering, criticising what he described as the politics of lies, deceit and hypocrisy.
Bauchi State Governor and APM National Leader, Bala Mohammed, expressed support for Makinde’s presidential ambition, describing him as a hardworking politician committed to inclusive governance.
The campaign rally attracted party supporters and leaders, including the party’s national chairman, as the APM began its nationwide mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election.
