Police Recover 50-Year-Old Man’s Body From Dry Well In Nasarawa, Arrest Two Suspects
The Nasarawa State Police Command has recovered the decomposed remains of a 50-year-old man, Jude Thaddeus, popularly known as Musa, from a dry well at his residence in Aku Village, Base 5, Karu Local Government Area of the state.
The police said the victim was allegedly murdered inside his residence before his body was dumped in the well and set ablaze.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, November 6, adding that two suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident, while another suspect remained at large.
According to the police, the incident came to light on November 3 after a 46-year-old woman, identified as Jennifer Alain and residing in Mpape, Abuja, reported the matter at the Aso Pada Police Division.
The woman reportedly raised concerns after repeated attempts to reach her brother by telephone proved unsuccessful, with an unidentified person repeatedly answering calls made to his number.
Following the complaint, detectives commenced an investigation, which led to the arrest of a 23-year-old suspect, Yusuf Musa.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect had been employed by the deceased about three months earlier to look after his domestic animals.
The police further alleged that the victim had been missing since October 22, while the suspect took possession of his mobile phone and misled people making enquiries by claiming that his supposed father had travelled to England.
Investigators also discovered that the suspect had allegedly been disposing of the deceased’s personal belongings, domestic animals and other properties.
During interrogation, Yusuf allegedly confessed to selling some of the victim’s heavy metals and industrial engines for ₦3.4m.
The police said the suspect also allegedly confessed to participating in the killing and disclosed that the victim’s remains had been dumped in a dry well within his residence.
Acting on the information, detectives, working alongside environmental services personnel, visited the property and recovered the decomposed remains.
The police said preliminary findings suggested that the victim was killed inside his residence before his body was taken to the well and set ablaze.
The suspects allegedly covered the well with several blocks in an attempt to conceal the remains and prevent the crime from being discovered.
The recovered remains were subsequently evacuated to the Medical Centre, Mararaba, where a medical doctor examined and certified the victim dead.
The police identified the two arrested suspects as Yusuf Musa, 23, and Victor Zamani, 32, while investigations reportedly established the involvement of another suspect who was still at large.
The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohamed, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for comprehensive investigation and prosecution.
The Command said efforts had been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect and bring everyone found culpable to justice.
