The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has formally adopted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, with Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, pledging to mobilise 50 per cent of the state’s votes for the President.

Soludo announced the decision on Friday, November 6, during the flag-off of APGA’s national campaign for the 2027 general elections at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, Anambra State.

The governor, who is also APGA’s national leader, said the party would not field a presidential candidate in the forthcoming election but would instead support Tinubu, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Today, we adopt the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, as our candidate,” Soludo declared.

He explained that the decision was consistent with APGA’s previous political arrangements, under which the party supported presidential candidates of the ruling party while maintaining its own political identity.

Soludo said Tinubu had demonstrated concern for the Igbo people, particularly Anambra State, recalling that several indigenes of the state were appointed to strategic positions during the President’s tenure as governor of Lagos State.

The governor also referenced the 2023 presidential election, when Tinubu secured approximately 5,000 votes in Anambra State.

According to him, despite the relatively low electoral support, the President had continued to address challenges confronting the state and the wider South-East region.

Soludo urged residents to support Tinubu in the 2027 election, arguing that stronger electoral backing would give Anambra and the South-East a better opportunity to engage with the Federal Government and negotiate development projects.

“We need to vote for him in order to sit with the government at the centre and negotiate for the development of the South-East and Anambra State,” he said.

He subsequently declared that APGA was targeting 50 per cent of Anambra’s votes for the President.

The endorsement comes as APGA intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the party maintaining its intention to contest legislative positions despite its decision not to present a presidential candidate.

The party had earlier reaffirmed its support for Tinubu following Soludo’s appointment as Anambra State Coordinator of the President’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.

With Friday’s announcement, APGA has publicly reinforced its political alignment with the ruling APC ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
