CAF Confirms Nigerian Samson Adamu as Substantive General Secretary
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed Nigerian football administrator, Samson Adamu, as its substantive General Secretary.
CAF announced the appointment on Sunday, November 1, following the confirmation of Adamu by its Executive Committee during the week.
Adamu had served in an acting capacity since March 2026, following the departure of his predecessor, Véron Mosengo-Omba.
CAF President, Patrice Motsepe, said the appointment followed a comprehensive recruitment process during which the position was widely advertised and several candidates were interviewed.
Adamu joined CAF in 2018 as Director of Competitions before subsequently serving as Director of Tournaments and Events.
During his time with the continental football governing body, he played leading roles in organising major competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
He is a graduate of the FIFA Master programme in International Management, Law and Humanities of Sport.
In his new position, Adamu will oversee CAF’s day-to-day administration and support the implementation of the organisation’s strategic priorities.
His appointment follows the departure of Mosengo-Omba, who stepped down in March 2026 after serving as CAF General Secretary.
CAF subsequently appointed Adamu to manage the office in an acting capacity while the recruitment process for a substantive successor was underway.
His confirmation places a Nigerian at the head of the continental body’s administrative operations, with responsibilities covering the coordination of its activities and implementation of decisions made by its leadership.
