The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has made the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general elections available online following concerns over public access to the document.

The commission announced the decision on Monday, October 26, saying the online publication would complement the physical display previously conducted at registration areas across the country.

Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, said the commission had taken note of concerns raised by Nigerians and other stakeholders about the need to make the register accessible online.

The physical display exercise took place nationwide from October 9 to 15, allowing registered voters to inspect their details and submit claims or objections where necessary.

The register is now available through INEC’s online platform at https://display.inecnigeria.org/.

The online publication gives voters another opportunity to check whether their details have been correctly captured ahead of the 2027 elections. It also allows them to identify possible omissions or errors in their registration particulars.

The development follows criticism over the register’s earlier unavailability online, despite its physical display at registration areas.

Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2026 provides for the preliminary voters’ register to be made available for public scrutiny at registration areas and through INEC’s official website or another website established by the commission for that purpose.

The delay in online access had raised questions about compliance with the law and whether voters had adequate opportunities to examine the register within the stipulated period.

INEC said it was continuing to process claims and objections arising from the exercise ahead of the certification and publication of the final register.

The commission has scheduled the publication of the final register of voters for December 15, 2026.

Registered voters should use the available preliminary register to check their particulars and follow INEC’s official guidance on submitting any necessary corrections or objections.

The commission said the additional online access was intended to widen public access and strengthen confidence in the electoral process.
