The Federal Government has disbursed ₦38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions across Nigeria under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund to address infrastructure deficiencies and improve teaching and learning facilities.

The breakdown of the funding, contained in a statement attributed to Efe Ovuakporie, Head of Media at the Federal Ministry of Finance, shows that universities, polytechnics and colleges of education are among the beneficiaries.

Universities account for the largest share, with ₦28.5 billion allocated to 79 institutions. Polytechnics received a combined ₦5.8 billion for 46 institutions, while 41 colleges of education were allocated ₦4.7 billion.

The intervention is intended to enable beneficiary institutions to commence or continue approved projects aimed at addressing critical infrastructure needs and strengthening their capacity to deliver tertiary education.

The ministry said the funding also forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to implement measures agreed under its Memorandum of Understanding with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The projects are expected to improve educational facilities and provide better conditions for teaching and learning across the beneficiary institutions.

However, the impact of the intervention will depend on how the funds are utilised and whether the approved projects deliver measurable improvements in institutional infrastructure.

Further details on the individual beneficiary institutions, their allocations and the specific projects to be funded would help the public assess the distribution and impact of the intervention.
