Kwara ADC Publicity Secretary Resigns, Accuses Party Leaders of Dishonesty
The Kwara State Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Abubakar Basambo, has resigned from the party, accusing some of its leaders of hypocrisy, dishonesty and double standards.
Basambo announced his decision in a resignation letter dated October 23, 2026, in which he expressed dissatisfaction with the direction of the party in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 general election.
In the letter, addressed to the party’s state chairman through the chairman of Magaji Are 1 Ward and the Ilorin East Local Government Area chairman, Basambo said he could no longer cope with what he described as the conduct of some party leaders and members of the state executive committee.
He alleged that some individuals who presented themselves as loyal party members were engaging in behaviour that contradicted their public claims of loyalty.
Basambo also criticised the ADC’s Kwara State governorship candidate, Zakari Mohammed, alleging that his attitude and what he described as dishonesty among some party members contributed to his decision to leave.
He warned that the conduct he complained about could undermine the party’s growth if left unaddressed.
The former spokesperson said he had no regrets about his decision, describing it as the end of his political journey with the ADC. He also expressed regret that he would no longer be working with his political leader, Abubakar Kannike, whom he said he had come to respect over the previous year.
Basambo’s resignation comes months after he emerged as the party’s state publicity secretary following its state congress in April 2026. At the time, he pledged to promote the party and defend the interests of ordinary Nigerians.
In the resignation letter, he also addressed his meeting with Bolakale Kawu, the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in Kwara State, saying it was not intended to undermine the ADC or constitute anti-party activity.
He described the meeting as an act of brotherhood and an effort by a committed party member to canvass support for the ADC. He further alleged that some party leaders had also held similar engagements behind the scenes.
Basambo thanked the ADC for the opportunity to serve and said his resignation took immediate effect.
The party’s response to his allegations was not available in the sources examined for this report. The claims against its leaders and governorship candidate have not been independently established.
