2027 Elections: NDC Fixes October 26 for NEC Meeting, Candidate Certificates
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will unveil its National Campaign Council, present its financial statement and distribute Certificates of Return to its candidates at its third National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Monday, October 26, 2026, in Abuja.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, announced the arrangements in a statement dated October 19 and published on October 20.
According to the announcement, the meeting will hold at 10 a.m. at JD Event Centre, Kashim Ibrahim Way, opposite A-Class Park, Maitama, Abuja.
The party said its National Treasurer would present its statement of account as part of its commitment to transparency and accountability in the management of party finances.
The NDC also challenged other political parties, particularly the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), to adopt similar measures in disclosing their financial records.
The meeting will also feature the unveiling of the National Campaign Council, which the party said would cover presidential, National Assembly, governorship and State Houses of Assembly campaigns.
The NDC added that its candidates would receive Certificates of Return for their respective offices.
Party speaks on financial challenges
The party attributed its limited financial resources partly to the economic situation in the country, claiming that about 80 per cent of its candidates could not afford its Expression of Interest forms.
According to the NDC, it provided the forms free of charge to the affected candidates.
The party also blamed the country’s economic difficulties on the policies of the APC-led administration.
The claim concerning the proportion of candidates who received free forms was made by the party. Independent documentation establishing the figure was not available in the materials examined for this report.
Campaign council unveiling rescheduled
The announcement follows an earlier decision by the NDC to move the unveiling and inauguration of its National Campaign Council from October 20 to October 26.
In the earlier statement, Director attributed the change to the schedule of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who, according to the party, had an important engagement overseas.
The revised arrangements place the campaign council unveiling alongside the NEC meeting and other activities announced by the party.
The NDC said the council would coordinate its campaign structures across the different elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The October 26 meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for the party to present its financial statement, formally unveil its campaign structure and distribute Certificates of Return to its candidates.
