The African Action Congress(AAC) has asked President Bola Tinubu to approve the use of the Presidential Villa in Abuja for a campaign council inauguration scheduled for November 11, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The opposition party also requested food, drinks and other logistical support for participants, arguing that political parties should receive equal treatment in their access to public institutions.

The requests were contained in a letter dated October 21, 2026, and reportedly signed by the party’s National Secretary, Oshiokhai Ikpeminioghena.

In the letter, titled Request for Approval to Hold the Inauguration of the AAC Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa and for Logistical Support, the party said the proposed event was part of its preparations for the 2027 elections.

The AAC said its request was based on the principles of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness and fairness.

It also cited arrangements reportedly extended to the ruling All Progressives Congress for a similar political engagement, asking the Presidency to provide comparable support for its proposed event.

The party argued that granting the request would demonstrate the administration’s commitment to equal access to public institutions, regardless of political affiliation.

The AAC further asked the Presidency to communicate the procedures and conditions applicable to the approval, expressing hope that the request would receive favourable consideration.

The request comes after Tinubu inaugurated the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on October 14 as the ruling party intensified preparations for the next general election.

The use of presidential facilities for political party activities raises questions about the distinction between official government resources and party campaign activities, particularly when opposition parties seek comparable access.

However, the AAC’s request does not establish that its proposed use of the facility or the provision of public funds for refreshments and logistics has been approved.

The Presidency’s response to the request was not established in the information available for this report.
