Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Ogun State, has targeted more than 60,000 votes from Ilaro and its surrounding communities ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, made the declaration at a programme organised by Ilaro Parapo for Yayi, themed “Unity, Development and Political Future of Ilaro District”.

According to The Guardian Nigeria, which reported the event on Sunday, the senator described Ilaro, the administrative headquarters of Ogun West Senatorial District, as a town becoming a “small London”, attributing the transformation to infrastructure projects he said he had facilitated.

He identified roads, healthcare, education, security and electricity as areas in which he said development projects had improved the town’s outlook.

Adeola also cited the transformation of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, into the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, as part of the town’s growing educational profile.

The institution’s transition to university status is supported by separate institutional records. In February 2026, the institution announced that the Federal Ministry of Education had issued appointment letters recognising its principal officers under the university’s new nomenclature.

At the political gathering, Adeola urged residents to support him and other APC candidates, arguing that their votes would contribute to the community’s future development.

He said he expected Ilaro District to deliver more than 60,000 votes for his candidacy.

In his welcome address, Omoba Segun Adewale, popularly known as OSA, said Ilaro had approximately 80,000 registered voters who had collected their Permanent Voter Cards.

Adewale expressed confidence that the community would mobilise support for Adeola, linking the campaign to the argument that Ogun West should produce the state’s next governor.

Ogun West has not produced a governor since Ogun State was created in 1976, a point that has featured prominently in arguments for political representation from the senatorial district.

Adeola’s candidacy had earlier received public backing from Governor Dapo Abiodun, who formally presented him to APC stakeholders in Ogun West in May 2026.

At the meeting in Ilaro, Abiodun described the decisi9on to support a candidate from Ogun West as an attempt to address the longstanding imbalance in the state’s political leadership.

Beyond the political campaign, Adeola has also highlighted his record of facilitating projects in Ogun West.

In a speech delivered at a market traders’ empowerment programme in Ilaro on July 31, 2026, the senator said he had facilitated the construction of 43 modern markets and related projects over three and a half years.

He also listed solar-powered boreholes, streetlights and financial grants to market traders among the initiatives he said he had facilitated.

The speech, published by Alukoro, provides details of the projects claimed by the senator, although the figures and individual project completion statuses would require further independent verification before being presented as established achievements.

Adeola’s appeal to Ilaro comes as political parties prepare for the 2027 governorship election, scheduled for February 6, 2027, according to the election timetable reported by Nigerian media.

His ability to secure the number of votes he has projected will depend on the support he receives from voters in Ilaro and the wider Ogun State electorate.
