Kogi LG Polls: APC Wins All 21 Chairmanship, 239 Councillorship Seats
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 21 chairmanship positions and 239 councillorship seats in the Kogi State local government elections held on Saturday, October 17.
The Chairman of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Mamman Nda-Eri, announced the results at the commission’s headquarters in Lokoja after the completion of collation across the state.
According to Voice of Nigeria, Nda-Eri declared the APC victorious in all the contested chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state’s 21 local government areas and 239 wards.
He described the election as peaceful and commended security agencies, electoral observers, journalists and voters for their conduct during the exercise.
The commission also confirmed that Certificates of Return would be issued to the winners in due course.
The election covered 3,508 polling units across Kogi State, according to details released by KOSIEC ahead of the polls.
The election was the final stage of a series of activities organised by the commission in preparation for the October 17 exercise.
The outcome gives the APC control of all 21 local government councils in the state, following its victory in every chairmanship and councillorship contest.
The outgoing chairmen and councillors were sworn in on October 23, 2024, and are expected to leave office this month in line with the two-year tenure provided for under the state’s electoral law.
