Five people have been killed after a fully loaded diesel tanker crashed into several vehicles along the Iwo Road–Ojoo Expressway in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

The accident occurred around 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Aduloju Bus Stop, opposite Dominion City. The vehicles involved included commercial Nissan Micra cars and a tanker reportedly carrying 45,000 litres of diesel.

The victims comprised two men, including the driver of one of the commercial cars, and three women who were passengers.

According to the Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority, the tanker reportedly suffered brake failure before falling onto one of the Micra vehicles, trapping its occupants inside the wreckage.

The agency’s General Manager, Adeoye Ayoade, said traffic congestion contributed to the circumstances surrounding the crash. He explained that a trailer carrying motor spare parts had broken down around Arilogu earlier in the morning, causing a long traffic build-up along the route.

The Oyo State Police Command also confirmed the accident, saying the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed officers to secure the scene and assist with rescue operations.

Police officers, Federal Road Safety Corps officials and OYRTMA personnel were deployed to manage traffic and clear the wreckage.

The victims’ bodies were taken to Adeoyo Hospital Mortuary.
