The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it is engaging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the omission of some of its candidates from the Commission’s final list of governorship candidates for the 2027 elections, as the Social Democratic Party (SDP) also reported the omission of its candidate in Benue State.

In a statement, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, said the party was treating the development with the seriousness it deserved and seeking an amicable resolution in line with the law and established electoral guidelines.

The party urged the affected candidates, members and supporters to remain calm and exercise patience while discussions with INEC continued.

The lists published on INEC’s website featured 13 candidates in Ogun State and 16 in Gombe State, with no PDP candidate listed in either state.

Among those omitted were Ladi Adebutu in Ogun State and Isa Ali Pantami in Gombe State.

Similarly, Vanguard reported on Sunday that the SDP’s governorship candidate in Benue State, Prof. Sebastine Hon, SAN, and his running mate were missing from INEC’s published list, which contained 12 candidates representing different political parties in the state.

Hon reportedly described the omission as an error and expressed confidence that the Commission would correct it.

“I believe this is just a minor error. It will be corrected,” he was quoted as saying.

The report added that the PDP’s governorship candidate in Benue State, Michael Aondoakaa, and his running mate, Ogbenjuwa Oyije, were included on the list.

The omissions in Ogun, Gombe and Benue states raise questions about the absence of the affected candidates from INEC’s published list ahead of the 2027 governorship elections.
