Oyo 2027: Alli Pledges LG Autonomy, 30 Pupils Per Class, Hospital in Every LG
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has unveiled a series of policy proposals focusing on local government autonomy, education, healthcare, workers’ welfare and economic development ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Alli made the commitments on Tuesday at a policy dialogue organised by the Oyo Rising Citizens Forum in Ibadan.
The APC candidate pledged to grant financial and administrative autonomy to the state’s 33 local government councils if elected governor, assuring that his administration would not interfere with funds accruing to the councils.
According to him, the local governments would be empowered to take responsibility for the development of schools and healthcare facilities, as well as the employment of personnel within their jurisdictions.
Education
On education, Alli proposed limiting class sizes to a maximum of 30 pupils and promised the recruitment and retraining of teachers.
He also pledged to allocate at least 18 per cent of the state’s annual budget to education, citing the UNESCO benchmark.
He said increased investment in the sector would improve learning conditions while creating employment opportunities for teachers and graduates.
Healthcare
Alli also outlined plans to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.
He promised to establish a functional general hospital in each of the 33 local government areas and at least one fully equipped primary healthcare centre in each of the 351 wards.
He further pledged to facilitate and commission three fully equipped health centres in Oyo South Senatorial District before the 2027 election, with the facilities to be handed over to the state government.
Workers’ Welfare
On workers’ welfare, the APC candidate promised a 13th-month salary for civil servants, alongside prompt payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities.
Addressing concerns surrounding the Ibadan Circular Road project, Alli said that, if elected, his administration would constitute a committee within 48 to 72 hours of assuming office to address grievances arising from the project.
Economic Development
Alli said his administration would pursue economic development through agriculture, mining and cottage industries.
He proposed the establishment of at least one cottage industry in each local government area, as well as the provision of parabolic dryers across the state.
Other proposals included expanding vocational opportunities for youths, increasing women’s participation in government and reviving the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State.
The APC candidate also fielded questions from participants on electricity, state assets, healthcare workers and access to revolving loans for traders.
The dialogue provided an opportunity for Alli to present his policy proposals as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
