Sultan Declares Sunday First Day Of Rabi’ Al-Thani 1448AH
The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Sunday, September 13, 2026, as the first day of Rabi’ Al-Thani 1448AH.
The declaration followed the absence of any credible report confirming the sighting of the new crescent on Friday, September 11, 2026.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs and Wazirin Sokoto, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu.
According to the statement, the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, in conjunction with the National Moonsighting Committee, received no report from the various moonsighting committees across the country confirming the sighting of the crescent of Rabi’ Al-Thani 1448AH.
The statement explained that Friday, September 11, 2026, corresponded to 29 Rabi’ Al-Awwal 1448AH, while Saturday, September 12, consequently became 30 Rabi’ Al-Awwal 1448AH.
It added that the Sultan accepted the report and accordingly declared Sunday, September 13, 2026, as the first day of Rabi’ Al-Thani 1448AH.
