FG Announces Public Holiday to Mark Eid-ul-Mawlid

The Federal Government has announced August 25 as a public holiday to enable Muslims across Nigeria to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, the annual celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government.

The minister extended felicitations to the Muslim faithful in Nigeria and beyond, urging them to use the occasion to reflect on the virtues associated with the life and teachings of the Prophet.

He highlighted values such as peace, compassion, humility, tolerance and selflessness, stressing that these principles remain important to the pursuit of national unity and peaceful coexistence.

Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to continue praying for peace, security and stability across the country.

He encouraged citizens to make the celebration an opportunity to strengthen bonds of brotherhood, promote mutual understanding and contribute positively to the development of the nation.

The Federal Government further urged Nigerians to celebrate responsibly and remain law-abiding throughout the holiday.

Eid-ul-Mawlid is observed annually by Muslims to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad and provides an opportunity for reflection on his teachings and exemplary conduct.
