Tinubu to Critics: ‘We’ll Give You Eyeglasses to See Nigeria’s Progress’

P President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fired back at critics of his administration, insisting that his government is delivering tangible progress despite prevailing economic challenges.

Speaking during a public address, the President rejected claims that his leadership has yielded little impact, stressing that reforms across key sectors are already producing results. He maintained that his administration is focused on stabilising the economy and driving long-term national development.

“This economy, I didn’t have to look back because the truth is I took over from myself,” Tinubu said, alluding to policy continuity from the administration of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari. “If something is wrong, fine—live with it, correct it, and move on. The life voyage is not going to be easy.”

Acknowledging the hardships faced by Nigerians, Tinubu urged patience and confidence in his government’s direction, assuring citizens that ongoing reforms would yield lasting benefits.

“And so many of you that are traveling with me, I can only stand before you and say you will not regret it,” he said. “That is why we ask you to renew their hope.”

In a pointed jab at dissenting voices, the President suggested that critics who fail to recognise his administration’s achievements may need help to do so.

“If they don’t want to see the hope and the roads that we build, the children we raise, and the economy we are growing, we will lend them ‘jigibola’—we will give them eyeglasses,” he remarked.

Tinubu concluded by reaffirming his commitment to governance and accountability, pledging not to shy away from the responsibilities entrusted to him.

“I can assure you, whatever you say I do, one thing you need from me is a promise that I won’t run away from you,” he added.
