Tinubu Postpones G20, AU–EU Trips Amid Security Crises, Orders Massive Deployment to Kwara

P President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended his scheduled trips to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, following fresh security concerns in parts of the country. The President was expected to depart Abuja on Tuesday for the 20th G20 Summit and later attend the 7th AU–EU Summit but opted to remain in the country for further security briefings.

The decision comes in the wake of the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and Monday’s attack on worshippers at Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. In response to a request by the Kwara State Governor, President Tinubu has directed the deployment of additional military and police personnel to Eruku and surrounding communities.

He also ordered security operatives to track down the bandits responsible for the attack on the church.

According to the presidency, the President is awaiting updates from Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited Kebbi State on his behalf, and separate reports from the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding the Kwara incident.

President Tinubu reaffirmed his directive to security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the 24 schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi, stressing that every effort must be made to bring them home unharmed.

The statement was issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
