S
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of the Niger Delta region, assuring that the administration is determined to address longstanding challenges confronting the area.
Akume gave the assurance when he received a delegation from the Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Forum, led by its Chairman and President of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri, during a courtesy visit in Abuja.
Highlighting some of the administration’s interventions, the SGF pointed to the establishment of the University of Environmental Technology in Ogoniland to help tackle ecological challenges in the region.
He also acknowledged earlier initiatives such as the creation of the Ministry of Niger Delta, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and the Amnesty Programme, noting that President Tinubu remains focused on consolidating and improving these efforts.
Commending the Forum for their solidarity and grassroots mobilization in support of the President’s re-election bid, Akume stressed that zoning and power rotation were essential to national unity, stability, and inclusivity.
In his remarks, Sir Jonathan Lokpobiri expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his decisive role in resolving the Rivers State political crisis, which he said has restored peace and stability.
He also thanked the Federal Government for youth empowerment initiatives in the region, particularly through the Amnesty Programme.
