The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, celebrated his 63rd birthday on Friday with a special prayer ceremony organised by a faction of the Ogbomoso Muslim community.
In a statement published via his Facebook handle, the ruler expressed his gratitude to the organisers for what he described as a “significant and thoughtful gesture”.
The monarch, while reaffirming his commitment to fairness; equity; and justice, noted that the unity of his community remained his priority.
According to the Oba, he conferred the title of “The Imam of Soun’s Palace” on Habib Ahmed Adekunle, a cleric in the town with little known about his antecedent.
The Oba stated that he tasked him with the duty of leading prayers within the palace and representing him in religious matters concerning the Muslim community.
The statement reads in part: “Following the prayers, I had the distinct honor of conferring the esteemed title of “The Imam of Soun’s Palace” on Habib Ahmed Adekunle, Omo Abdul Wahab, Omo Imam Mahamud Ayilara.
“The Palace of Soun requires an Imam who will not only lead prayers within the palace but also represent me in religious matters concerning the Muslim community both within our town and beyond.”
