Police won’t shield erring officers, says AIG

T The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 16, Adebola Hamzat, has warned that the Nigeria Police will not condone officers’ involvement in land grabbing and human rights abuses.

This is as he reiterated that the Force, under the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has zero tolerance for extortion and other vices involving officers and men of the police.

AIG Hamzat stated this in Port Harcourt, just before his lecture to police officers during a familiarisation tour of the Rivers State police command, on Thursday.

He stressed that issues brought to his attention during interaction with stakeholders in states would form part of his discussion during his lecture.

“Most importantly, corruption, extortion and human rights abuse, it is part of the talking point we are discussing. Such acts are not good for the image of the police.

“I’m very sure you people know that the police these days under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has zero tolerance for these vices.

“Extortion will not be condoned. We have said this repeatedly and you can see actions being taken. That’s why I gave that opportunity to people, let’s interact, let’s know what we’re doing that is not good enough.

“Because we cannot say we know all, but because you are the people we serve, you’ll know better, because you benefit from the services.

“I will not open your cover. We’ll only work on the information. Give the police information, the good, the bad and the ugly, we shall always deal with them,” he said.
